Collection: Patchouli Family
An ancient fragrance that has a lot to tell
What was patchouli used for?
In the Middle East, silk merchants used to wrap shawls and precious fabrics in bundles containing patchouli leaves to repel insects and protect them from moths, so when fabrics arrived in the East and were purchased, the smell of patchouli was associated with luxurious objects and materials and therefore highly prized.
Why do hippies use patchouli oil?
Its popularity exploded in America and Europe in the late 1960s, when the hippie movement and the pacifist movement were born. Its narcotic trail subdued a whole generation that believed in free love and saw the promised land in the oriental word. At that time, the patchouli fragrance was used as an absolute extract of the plant, with a strong herbaceous note, which was not accompanied by other scenes. But its close connection with the world of hippies generated two different thoughts: some considered it a sensual elixir while others did not appreciate it for its connection with that world. But Patchouli has enchanted perfumers by becoming one of the most popular raw materials and has been used in combination with others and very often at the base of the olfactory pyramid for its intensity and persistence. Thus it passed through the ages, met dolls from all over the world, accompanied illustrious women and men and has always been a warm and enveloping companion.
