Tradition
In the city of Lima, traditions and faith are intertwined in a unique way. I remember my childhood, standing outside the Las Nazarenas Church, watching one of the grandest religious manifestations: the procession of the Lord of Miracles. This event, celebrated in October, the purple month, has endured for more than three centuries.
The procession is accompanied by a parade of typical Peruvian delicacies. Anticuchos, with their characteristic condiments, are mixed with sweet desserts such as turrón, a cake soaked in honey, candies and guindones. Mazamorra morada, with its flavour of pineapple, apple, cinnamon and cloves, is also part of this experience. And we cannot forget Cachina, a sweet liqueur made from grapes in the city of Chincha. All this takes place in an intense atmosphere of smoke, produced by the incense and myrrh incense.
